The men’s quarter-final matches took centre stage at Wimbledon on day nine with some shock results.
Roger Federer has become the odds-on favourite to win this year’s Wimbledon as the top two seeds crashed out at the quarter final stage.
Federer himself eased into the semi finals with a 6-2 6-4 7-6 win against 6th seed Milos Raonic The Swiss showed his coolness to see out the third set tie-breaker and win the match.
Federer has not yet dropped a single set at Wimbledon this year which makes him the firm favourite going into the semi-finals.
Elsewhere both Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic went out of the tournament due to injuries. Murray managed to see out his match in five sets against American Sam Querrey but Novak had to retire early in the second set.
This result meant that Murray had to relinquish the Wimbledon title for this year and some say it was inevitable due to the injury he suffered before the tournament began.
Questions will be raised now if both Novak and Andy can recover in time for the US Open which starts in just 6 weeks.
In the other quarter-final, Rafael Nadal’s conqueror Gilles Muller lost in a five-set thriller v the seventh seed Marin Cilic 6-3 6-7 5-7 7-5 1-6.
