Day 7 – Wimbledon Round-Up

The second week of Wimbledon started with a cracking day’s play which included some shock results.

The headline of the day’s play came at Court 1, Rafael Nadal and Gilles Muller produced the match of the tournament so far with a five-set thriller.

Muller produced a fantastic display to beat the two time Wimbledon champion in a final set tie breaker; 6-3 6-4 3-6 4-6 15-13.

Credit also has to go to Nadal who fought back heroically from two sets down to put himself in contention.

Ultimately it was to no prevail as Muller saw out the tie breaker to claim a huge win.

Elsewhere, Johanna Konta became Britain’s first woman to reach the quarter finals of Wimbledon for 33 years.

She beat France’s Caroline Garcia in three sets – 7-6 4-6 6-4 – to claim the quarter final spot.

Konta showed her passion as she threw her racket and fell to her knees when she claimed the victory.

After the match she said, “It’s another step forward to being involved in the event for the full two weeks.” Clearly winning Wimbledon is her dream and she is not going to let anyone else take it away from her.

Murray seemed to be limping after the match as he walked to the changing rooms but there are no signs as of yet that he will be departing the tournament anytime soon.
