AFC Bournemouth have completed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic for what is reported to be an undisclosed fee. The fee is rumoured to be in region of the £10m mark.
Begovic will be returning to familiar territory having had a previous playing spell for The Cherries. Begovic joined Bournemouth on loan from Portsmouth back in 2007 making 8 appearances in his loan spell.
Begovic was brought in at Chelsea to mainly be a backup for Belgian Thibaut Courtois and Begovic’s playing time at Chelsea was limited. The Bosnian only made 20 appearances for Chelsea in his two years at the club and his move will no doubt see him get him more time.
Before joining Chelsea, Begovic established himself as Stoke City’s number one making 160 appearances in a five year spell as well scoring a goal in the process.
It looks as though Begovic will be eventually replacing Artur Boruc as the number one keeper down at Bournemouth as Boruc’s deal is due to be running out in 2018.
Begovic spoke about his time at Chelsea and what this move brings for him
“Being part of a title-winning team at Chelsea was amazing but I felt now was the right time to move on because I want to be playing regular football.”
