Premier League Darts: Week 8 Preview

Premier League Darts rolls into Manchester for week 8 of the Premier League, where MVG will attempt to dethrone Peter Wright at the top of the table.

Jelle Klassen and Kim Huybrechts battle to avoid relegation, with both having been cut adrift by previous performances.

Peter Wright vs Phil Taylor

Peter Wright comes into this contest on a great run of form having won the U.K open just a few weeks back, and beating Dave Chisnall last week in a comfortable 7-4 victory.

Phil Taylor has had a sluggish campaign so far with many experts believing he isn’t playing well because he isn’t enjoying his darts.

He sits in 6th place one point outside the play-off places, despite getting beat by MVG 7-4 last week in Rotterdam.

Jelle Klassen vs Adrian Lewis

Jelle Klassen comes into this match needing a win to keep his hopes of playing in the Premier League past judgement night a possibility.

The Dutchman has recently been suffering from a wrist injury that hampered him last week in his 7-3 defeat to James Wade.

Adrian Lewis has been in good form recently, winning his last two matches to propel him up to 5th in the table – just outside the play-offs.

After an easy 7-3 win over Kim Huybrechts last time out, the two-time world champion will be hoping for a win here to push him into the play-offs.

Raymond Van Barneveld vs Michael Van Gerwen

This all Dutch affair will be the biggest attraction on week 8 of the Premier League with both men eager to get one over on their fellow compatriot.

Barney comes into this one on the back of a superb 7-2 victory over Gary Anderson in Rotterdam, in front of his Dutch faithful, which pushed him into the play-off places.

Van Gerwen arrives in Manchester knowing he has to play twice after missing week 5 because of a back injury, and is in good form after condemning his arch rival Phil Taylor to defeat last week.

James Wade vs Michael Van Gerwen

Wade comes into this contest firmly in the play-off spots after defeating Klassen 7-3 last week, and will hope to further stamp his authority on his position this week by springing a surprise upset upon the world number one.

Van Gerwen will be hoping to get a strong result in his opening game of the night against Wade, which would move him to the top of the league.

Kim Huybrechts vs Gary Anderson

Huybrechts knows that he needs a big result this week to keep his hopes of further Premier League outings alive.

The Belgian has been on a poor run of form with only 3 points to his name and yet to register a win this season – the only player to do so.

Gary Anderson has been playing consistently well for several weeks now, averaging 102 in his defeat to Barneveld last week.

The Flying Scotsman needs to work on his doubles if he is to turn those performances into wins and get into the play-off spots.
